Steven Potts, Ms., AMP, CDFM, Fiduciary
Steve Potts is a professional management consultant with over eighteen years' experience advising, training and teaching senior managers in both industry and government. He specializes in strategy development and performance improvement in global markets. Mr. Potts has eleven years' active federal experience, including service with the U.S. Navy, Office of the Secretary of Defense and as a Presidential Appointee for the Department of Energy. He has extensive teaching experience, both across the U.S. and internationally specializing in finance, accounting, strategy, process improvement, and management analysis courses. Mr. Potts holds a B.S. in engineering from the United States Naval Academy, an M.S. in systems engineering management from the University of Southern California, and he is a graduate of the Advanced Management Program of the Harvard Business School.
Mr. Potts has performed projects in 32 nations. He has extensive public speaking experience, both in the U.S., and internationally. He has been a guest speaker in Germany, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Italy, Kazakhstan and Russia, and on Voice of America, as well as an author and radio host for Global Business Newsletter.
Mr. Pott's federal experience includes service as the Assistant to the Secretary of Energy of the United States, where he was responsible for budget formulation, execution and oversight activities, for program performance analysis, and for sensitive congressional liaison activities. He created, organized and managed a billion dollar federal energy and environmental program, and held unlimited contract signature authority for the U.S. government. He served for the Secretary of Defense as Deputy Director of Intelligence Policy, responsible for policy, planning, R&D, budget, systems acquisition, and OMB liaison functions. Military service on the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations was focused primarily on budget, R&D and policy activities. As a management consultant, he has advised on the creation, start-up, development, funding and execution of over a dozen major federal programs.
Mr. Potts has nine years' experience in the development of training and education programs. He has developed training programs for private industry across a wide range of management topics. He has participated in development of courses for Department of Defense, Department of Energy, Graduate School, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Agency for International Development, and the U.S. House of Representatives, among other federal entities, as well as web-based training systems for industry. Several of the most recent courses for which he is the principal author include Activity Based Costing; Federal Budget Formulation; Strategy and the Government Performance and Results Act; Budget Formulation in the IRS, Performance Measurement and Budgeting, Federal Accounting Standards, Business Process Reengineering, Accounting for the House of Representatives, and Understanding Working Capital Funds.
